G7 Summit 2026: World Leaders Gather in France Amid Global Crises

The G7 Summit 2026 has opened on 15-17 June in Evian-les-Bains, France. The summit is attended by leaders from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the European Union as well as invited nations like India, Brazil, Kenya and South Korea.

This year's summit is being held amid significant challenges facing the world, such as the US-Iran peace talks, a continued Russian-Ukrainian war, energy security, global economic imbalance, and the fast pace of AI development. There will also be talks on critical minerals, supply chains and support for developing countries in debt crisis.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the summit as an invited chief guest and is likely to hold a few bilateral talks, which include those with French President Emmanuel Macron and other leaders from around the world. The Indian presence underscores India's increasing role in the international arena of diplomacy and economic relations.

Meanwhile, thousands of protesters took to the streets in Geneva on the eve of the summit and near the French-Swiss border, protesting against policies of the G7, including on war, climate and economic inequality. Extra security has been put in place around summit venue.
