BRICS National Security Advisers' Meeting Announced

On 20 June 2026, India had announced that it will hold the meeting of the 16th BRICS National Security Advisers (NSA) and the High Representatives on National Security in New Delhi on 22-23 June 2026. The two-day conclave will be presided over by India's National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, during India's Chairmanship of the BRICS in 2026. During the meeting the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that top security officials from the BRICS countries will address current global security challenges and enhance strategic partnerships among the bloc. The announcement arrives amid a backdrop of escalating tensions between various countries over West Asia, the conflict in Ukraine between Russia and Ukraine and the rising risk of cyber attacks.

The main concept of this year's meeting is "Non-Traditional Security Challenges Confronting the World Today. Cyber security, protection of critical digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, terrorism, information security, organised crime and other technology-driven security risks will be discussed. The meeting will also be linked to the broader geopolitical developments in the region, such as the changing dynamics of West Asia and security cooperation in the region. The conclave will be one of the most important bilateral events during India's chairmanship of the BRICS and is expected to be attended by senior officials from China like Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Russia's Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu.

The meeting is significant since it will set the tone for the agenda of the BRICS Summit later this year, which India will host. Hosting the conclave further strengthens India's agenda as a major voice of the Global South and as it pursues policy of engaging with multiple major powers. The talks will enhance the cooperation in the field of counter-terrorism, cyber security and other new security issues, which go beyond BRICS economic cooperation, since the organization's activities are becoming more and more relevant in the field of global governance.
