48 viewsThe protest at Jantar Mantar by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which has been ongoing since, has seen the greatest development as the health of activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has been on an indefinite hunger strike in support of the protest, worsened. His blood sugar is down about 60 and his blood pressure is still low, organisers said. He is under medical observation.
The protest also has been getting renewed political and civil society backing from CPI(ML) Liberation General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya and RTI activist Nikhil Dey, who visited the protest site to show his solidarity with the protest.
In the meanwhile, the leaders of CJP have alleged that the Delhi Police had assaulted the students who were trying to establish a library at the site of the protest and that there were restriction being imposed on the protesters. These are the allegations of the organisers and no official statement has been made by the authorities about it.
The protest, which had started on 20 June, is demanding the resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan for alleged malafides in competitive examination proceedings and other reforms in the examination system. The central government has yet to make a decision on the protesters' main demands.
Meanwhile, the movement is on and student groups and supporters are holding demonstrations at Jantar Mantar, while focus has now shifted to Wangchuk's health and any potential government action.
