PM Modi's Three-Nation Visit: Strengthening India's Global Partnerships

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake a three-nation official visit to Indonesia, New Zealand, and Australia from 6 to 11 July 2026. The visit is expected to strengthen India's diplomatic engagement in the Indo-Pacific region while expanding cooperation in trade, defence, technology, education, and clean energy.

The first stop of the tour will be Indonesia, where Prime Minister Modi is expected to hold bilateral talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. Discussions are likely to focus on maritime security, defence cooperation, digital economy, renewable energy, and strengthening India's Act East Policy. Both countries are important partners in ensuring a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.

The second leg of the visit will take the Prime Minister to New Zealand, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in around four decades. The two nations are expected to discuss expanding trade, cooperation in agriculture, education, tourism, and people-to-people ties. Talks may also include strengthening collaboration in emerging technologies and supply-chain resilience.

The final destination will be Australia, one of India's closest strategic partners in the Indo-Pacific. Leaders are expected to review progress under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with discussions covering defence, cybersecurity, critical minerals, artificial intelligence, climate action, and maritime cooperation under the Quad framework.

The visit comes at a time of increasing geopolitical competition in the Indo-Pacific. By engaging closely with these three nations, India aims to strengthen regional stability, diversify economic partnerships, and reinforce its position as a leading voice in the Global South.

The three-nation tour reflects India's evolving foreign policy strategy of building strong partnerships across the Indo-Pacific while maintaining strategic autonomy. The outcomes of the visit are expected to enhance economic opportunities, improve regional security cooperation, and further establish India as a key player in shaping the future of the region.
