Sri Ganganagar Horror: A Case That Has Shaken Rajasthan

A deeply disturbing case out of Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, has sparked nationwide outrage and renewed scrutiny of child safety, trafficking networks, and unregulated hotels operating in the state.

The case centers on a 13-year-old schoolgirl, a Class 8 student from a village near Sriganganagar, who traveled to Srivijaynagar on June 18 to meet a friend. According to RPS Kailashdan Detha, in charge of the Women's Harassment Cases Cell and the investigating officer, she arrived back in Sriganganagar around 10:30 pm that night and asked an e-rickshaw driver, identified as Rambabu, to take her home. Instead, police allege, he took her to a hotel called Joy Inn.

From there, investigators say she was moved between multiple hotels and subjected to sustained sexual exploitation over the following days, with a youth allegedly responsible for transporting her from one location to the next. Initially, three hotels surfaced in the investigation; police later identified a fourth, operating under the name "Dream," near Birbal Chowk. Records from all four establishments are now under examination.

As the investigation deepened, the scale of the crime grew far beyond initial reports. Officials now say the girl was raped by more than 30 men over a period of five days, across those hotels. The FIR alleges she was effectively sold by the rickshaw puller to a hotel owner, who then passed her between other operators. She reportedly told police she was forced to drink alcohol whenever she complained of pain from the repeated assaults. Investigators are also examining whether alcohol was administered to her throughout the ordeal.

She was recovered by police from Hotel Joy Inn on June 22, after her family filed a missing person report.

Public anger over the case has been intense. Local authorities responded by demolishing four hotels linked to the crime using bulldozers — a move that also drew attention to a wider problem: despite not being a major tourist hub, Sri Ganganagar reportedly has over 150 illegal hotels operating without proper oversight.

Based on the girl's statement, police have arrested 10 people so far, including hotel owners and managers, with efforts continuing to identify and detain others allegedly involved.
