PM Modi Flags Off India's First Hydrogen-Powered Train in Jind: A Green Milestone for Indian Railways

India marked a historic achievement as Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the country's first hydrogen-powered train from Jind, Haryana. The project represents a major step towards cleaner, greener, and more sustainable rail transportation.

Unlike conventional diesel trains, the new hydrogen-powered train uses hydrogen fuel cells to generate electricity. The only emission from the train is water vapour, making it an eco-friendly alternative that helps reduce air pollution and carbon emissions.

The initiative is part of Indian Railways' green energy mission, which aims to modernize the railway network while reducing dependence on fossil fuels. Hydrogen-powered trains are expected to play a key role on non-electrified routes and support India's long-term goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions.

With this launch, India joins a select group of countries adopting hydrogen-powered rail technology. The project also highlights the government's focus on clean energy, innovation, and sustainable infrastructure.

Speaking at the event, PM Modi said the hydrogen train reflects India's commitment to advanced technology and environmental responsibility. If the pilot project proves successful, similar trains could be introduced on more routes across the country.
