Parliament’s Monsoon Session Disrupted on Day One: NEET Controversy and CJP Protest Dominate Politics

India’s Monsoon Session of Parliament began amid intense political confrontation on 21 July 2026, with proceedings in both Houses repeatedly disrupted by Opposition protests. The major issues raised included the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak, police action during the previous day’s CJP protest in Delhi, and the alleged theft of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

In the Lok Sabha, Opposition members raised slogans and displayed placards during Question Hour, forcing repeated adjournments. The Rajya Sabha also witnessed an uproar after Opposition Leader Mallikarjun Kharge raised the issue of student protests and the police response. Despite appeals from the Chair for cooperation and order, the protests continued, leaving little time for regular legislative business.

The previous day’s CJP march added further tension to the session. The protest, linked to demands for accountability over the NEET controversy, had resulted in clashes between demonstrators and police. Authorities reported that around 70 protesters were detained and 118 police personnel were injured, while protesters and their supporters accused the police of excessive force. The incident became a major political flashpoint inside Parliament.

The disruption highlights the growing political pressure surrounding examination irregularities and the government's response to youth protests. While the Opposition demanded discussion and accountability, the government called for Parliament to function normally and conduct legislative business.

The first day therefore ended with a clear message: the Monsoon Session is likely to be dominated by confrontation over NEET, protest rights, and government accountability. With both sides refusing to back down, the coming days could witness further disruptions unless the government and Opposition reach a common ground for debate.
