CJP Protest Intensifies: Delhi on High Alert as Student Anger Spreads Across India

The ongoing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi has entered a tense phase, with the movement continuing to draw large crowds over demands linked to examination irregularities, student concerns and calls for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The protest has now become a major national political issue, with the government and demonstrators remaining sharply divided over accountability and the way forward.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced plans for fast-track courts to deal with examination fraud and paper-leak cases, saying those responsible for damaging students’ futures should face swift punishment. However, protesters continue to demand stronger accountability, including political responsibility and wider reforms in the examination system.

The situation around Jantar Mantar has also led to heightened security measures. Sixteen Delhi Metro stations were closed for security reasons as crowds gathered in central Delhi, causing significant disruption for office workers, students and daily commuters. Interchange facilities remained available at selected stations, including Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat.

Authorities also imposed temporary mobile internet restrictions within a 1.5-kilometre radius of Jantar Mantar, citing law-and-order concerns. The move has triggered debate over transparency, public safety and the right to communicate during protests. Nearby Connaught Place establishments were also advised to close early amid heightened security.

The protest has also seen reports of clashes and injuries, increasing pressure on authorities and organisers to prevent further violence. With the government offering fast-track legal action while protesters continue demanding deeper accountability, the CJP agitation has moved far beyond a single demonstration. It has become a wider debate over examination integrity, protest rights, police action and democratic accountability in India.
