Assam Flood Recovery: ₹160 Crore Aid Boosts Rehabilitation Drive

The flood situation in Assam continues to improve as water levels recede across most affected districts. With rescue operations largely completed, the state government has shifted its focus to rehabilitation and long-term recovery. According to the latest official updates, the floods have claimed 82 lives and continue to affect around 1.78 lakh people across seven districts.

To accelerate relief efforts, the Assam government has transferred ₹160 crore directly to flood-affected families. The financial assistance is aimed at helping households rebuild damaged homes, restore livelihoods, and meet immediate post-flood needs. Relief camps remain operational, providing food, clean drinking water, healthcare, and temporary shelter to displaced residents.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has stated that rehabilitation is now the state's top priority. The government has also announced plans to rebuild flood-ravaged villages, repair damaged roads and public infrastructure, and support farmers whose crops were destroyed by the floods. Authorities are working closely with local administrations to ensure that assistance reaches every affected family.

The Centre has also extended support by approving disaster relief funds for flood-affected states, strengthening Assam's recovery efforts. Experts are simultaneously studying long-term solutions, including measures to address river erosion and improve flood management along the Brahmaputra basin.

Although the immediate flood threat has eased, the road to recovery remains long. The focus is now on rebuilding homes, restoring livelihoods, and strengthening disaster preparedness so that Assam is better equipped to face future floods.
