Alibaba Launches Qwen 3.8-Max AI Model

Chinese technology giant Alibaba has officially launched Qwen 3.8-Max, the latest and most advanced model in its Qwen family of artificial intelligence systems. The release marks a significant milestone in the global AI race, with Alibaba positioning the model as a direct competitor to leading AI systems developed by OpenAI, Anthropic, and other major technology companies.

Qwen 3.8-Max is built on a Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) architecture and features 2.4 trillion parameters, making it one of the largest AI models publicly announced. However, only about 95 billion parameters are activated for each query, enabling faster responses while reducing computing costs. The model also supports a context window of up to one million tokens, allowing it to process lengthy documents, perform complex reasoning, generate code, and handle multimodal tasks such as text and image understanding.

Alibaba claims that Qwen 3.8-Max delivers performance comparable to some of the world's leading AI models in coding, reasoning, and enterprise applications. The company has made the model available through Alibaba Cloud's Model Studio, with plans to release its open weights, giving developers greater flexibility to build and customize AI-powered applications.

The launch highlights the rapid progress of China's AI industry and intensifies competition in the global artificial intelligence market.
