Sapta Dhara: PM Modi’s Seven-Point Roadmap for Viksit Bharat 2047

On India’s 80th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled “Sapta Dhara” — seven streams of strength as a broad development roadmap aimed at taking India towards the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047. The framework focuses on strengthening the economy, technology, infrastructure, national security and India’s global influence.

The first pillar is Manufacturing Power, with an emphasis on building complete value chains in India, from product design and components to finished goods, while improving cost, quality and scale.

The second is Agriculture and Food Processing, focusing on connecting Indian farmers and agricultural products with global markets and expanding value addition through food processing.

The third pillar, Technology and Innovation, covers areas such as artificial intelligence, quantum technology, space, robotics and data centres. India’s digital public infrastructure was highlighted as an area with potential for global expansion.

The fourth pillar is Gati Shakti, centred on infrastructure, logistics and connectivity. The remaining three streams are Defence Power, Green and Blue Economy, and Soft Power, covering national security, sustainable development and India’s cultural and diplomatic influence.

The framework comes with a strong focus on youth participation, with the government linking young Indians to technology, skills and nation-building.

Ultimately, Sapta Dhara represents an ambitious attempt to connect seven major areas of national strength under one long-term vision. Its real significance will depend on implementation, investment and measurable outcomes over the years leading to 2047.
