53 viewsHeavy rainfall has disrupted normal life across several parts of India, with Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh and parts of West Bengal among the affected regions. Waterlogging, flooding, damaged crops and transport disruptions have been reported as intense weather systems continue to affect central and northern India.
Uttar Pradesh has been particularly badly affected. According to reports, 63 districts recorded above-normal rainfall, while several areas received exceptionally heavy showers. Rain, thunderstorms and strong winds damaged standing crops and houses, with deaths reported in multiple districts. The India Meteorological Department has warned of further heavy to very heavy rainfall and a risk of flash flooding in some areas.
In Uttarakhand, authorities suspended the Char Dham Yatra amid red and orange weather alerts. Schools were also closed in five districts as authorities monitored the risk from heavy rain and hazardous travel conditions.
Jharkhand has also faced serious flooding. Rivers including the Subarnarekha and Kharkai rose above danger levels, while waterlogging disrupted road transport. Six flights were cancelled at Ranchi's Birsa Munda Airport, according to reports.
Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh witnessed rain in several areas and the season's first snowfall in higher parts of Kinnaur.
With extreme weather affecting multiple states simultaneously, authorities remain on alert for flooding, landslides, transport disruption and further damage to crops and property.
