77 viewsIndian golfer Pranavi Urs has created history at the 2026 Asian Games, becoming the first Indian woman to win an individual golf gold medal at the Games. The 23-year-old from Mysuru secured the landmark victory in the women’s individual stroke-play event at Kasugai Country Club in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
Pranavi entered the final round with a three-shot lead but faced an early setback after a triple bogey on the third hole. Instead of losing momentum, she responded with crucial birdies and gradually rebuilt her advantage. She finished the tournament at 15-under 265, one stroke ahead of China’s Yin Ruoning and Singapore’s Shannon Tan, who both finished at 14-under.
The victory marks a major milestone for Indian women’s golf. Before Pranavi’s triumph, Aditi Ashok’s silver medal at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games was India’s best result in the women’s individual golf competition. Pranavi’s gold also ended India’s 24-year wait for an individual Asian Games golf gold, following Shiv Kapur’s men’s victory in 2002.
Pranavi’s success was followed by another medal for India as she joined Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar to win silver in the women’s team event. India finished with a combined score of 14-under 546, behind gold medallists China. The double-medal performance makes Pranavi’s campaign one of the notable moments for Indian golf at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
