47 viewsCongress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi launched a digital platform called “Satyagraha” on October 3, aimed at bringing together issue-based protests and public grievances from across India. The initiative was launched a day after Gandhi Jayanti and draws its name from Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of peaceful resistance.
The platform allows people and organisations to submit details about their causes and protests. According to reports, registered movements can appear on an interactive map, helping people identify other groups raising similar issues. Gandhi said the initiative could bring together voices from different parts of the country that may otherwise remain isolated.
Gandhi specifically mentioned issues involving students, farmers, women, tribal communities, Dalits, education, land rights and other public concerns. He said people could share their stories through the platform and indicate if they wanted support. He also said he would try to assist registered movements through Parliament, public campaigns or other channels in his capacity as Leader of the Opposition.
The launch comes amid several ongoing political and social protests, including demonstrations over electoral-roll revision. The platform represents a new digital approach by the Congress leadership to document and connect different movements. Whether it becomes an effective coordination tool will depend on participation and how the information submitted by users is verified and used.
