55 viewsA brief exchange between actor-politician Jaya Bachchan and a reporter during an INDIA bloc protest in Delhi has gone viral on social media. The incident took place on October 6 as Opposition leaders were protesting over the functioning of the Election Commission and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
During the interaction, a journalist questioned Bachchan about a placard being carried at the protest. She accused the reporter of trying to “twist the matter” and, when asked to explain what the matter was, replied, “Nahi bataungi” (I won’t tell you). She was also seen moving the microphone away. The short video quickly spread across social media.
The viral moment soon became a political-social media debate of its own. BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranaut shared the clip on Instagram and mocked Bachchan’s response, questioning how a protest message could be communicated if its participants refused to explain it to the media.
However, focusing only on the “Nahi bataungi” clip can overshadow the larger context. Bachchan has separately spoken about the protest and said she and other leaders would continue their agitation. The demonstration itself concerns the Opposition’s objections to the Election Commission’s functioning and electoral-roll revision.
The episode highlights how quickly a few seconds of a political event can become the main story online. Whether viewers see Bachchan’s response as frustration with questioning or as an unhelpful interaction with the media, the viral clip has shifted attention from the substantive electoral-roll debate to the confrontation itself.
