57 viewsIndia is preparing to welcome Sharad Navratri 2026, one of the most important Hindu festivals dedicated to Goddess Durga. The nine-day festival will begin on Sunday, October 11, and continue through October 19. Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, will be celebrated on October 20 across most parts of India.
Navratri means “nine nights” and celebrates the power of Goddess Durga and the victory of good over evil. During these nine days, devotees worship the nine forms of Goddess Durga, visit temples, perform daily prayers and observe fasts. Many households also perform Ghatasthapana, a ritual that marks the beginning of Navratri worship.
The festival is celebrated in different ways across India. Gujarat is famous for its energetic Garba and Dandiya Raas events, while West Bengal celebrates Durga Puja with beautifully decorated pandals, artistic idols and cultural programmes. In several regions, devotees wear traditional clothes, prepare special dishes and gather with family members to celebrate the occasion.
The final day of Navratri is followed by Vijayadashami, which symbolises the triumph of good over evil. The occasion is associated with Lord Rama’s victory over Ravana and Goddess Durga’s victory over Mahishasura.
As celebrations begin tomorrow, devotees are preparing for prayers, fasting and colourful cultural events. Navratri remains a time of faith, devotion, community spirit and new beginnings for millions of people across the country.
